Sing Out Brussels! (the fabulous queer choir) is a singing ambassador for Brussels-based LGBTQI+ community. We share our values of openness, respect, and freedom through music. We are an original outspoken vocal group, combining quality, musicality, and spectacular shows.
We are looking for an artistic consultant to support us in creating our shows and performances, especially our next big show in June 2027, The Love Show.
- Start date: September or October 2026. The season ends in late June 2027.
- Days: between 10 and 20 days spread across the season.
- Lump sum remuneration: €3000
Here’s what we need
The creative joy team (JT Creative) is preparing Sing Out Brussels! ‘The Love Show‘ at the CC Uccle on the 11 and 12 June 2027 (dress rehearsal 10 June). We have a script, all the repertoire, some choreography, a full concept.
We now need an artistic consultant to work with the choir (and especially our Creative Joy Team (JT) and our choreography team volunteers, as well as our professional conductor) to stage the show. This consultant will help us to turn our script into a compelling stage performance. Here’s what we need from you:
- Collaborate with our conductor and the Creative Joy Team to finalise the show, and be aware of all the elements that are in it so that they may carry our vision to stage. This means knowing and reviewing the script, assisting in coming up with the pitch for costumes, etc.
- Liaise with CCU and our technicians regarding technical aspects (lights, stage setup, sound).
- Collaborate with lighting engineer to create the show’s lighting (including lighting plan and directions), and liaise with the videographer to film the show (taking into account angles for filming, shots that could be of interest etc).
- Ensure we have all necessary elements at our disposal (risers, microphones, projectors etc.) and oversee technical aspects during the shows.
- Help guide everyone involved during the technical setup and final runthrough, being both a reassuring presence and maintaining a firm grasp on stage logistics.
- Be an external eye on what’s happening on stage (set-up, movements, intentions) and give gentle, but constructive feedback, discussing with other creative leads to have the best possible version of the show while respecting people’s creative intent and our members’ abilities. Some elements of the show (group movements, intentions, stage presence) will also require more direct input and direction from you.
- Aid in maintaining morale and good energy during non-music rehearsals.
The artistic consultant MUST fully support the choir’s queer identity and core values. It would be an advantage to speak French and English, and Dutch is also a plus.
You will need to be available for about 10-20 days work, including:
- A number of planning meetings with Creative teams (dates to be determined, probably in the evening).
- At least one visit to the CC Uccle in April.
- At least 4 Wednesday evening rehearsals 19h-22h in the run up to the show.
- A couple of rehearsal dates on Saturdays or Sundays (dates TBC).
- The technical setup and dress rehearsal – 10 June 2027.
- The days of performances of the Love Show, June 11 and 12th.
- Potentially a weekend retreat outside of Brussels (12-14 March 2027), as well as a residential weekend in Brussels (21-22 November 2026).
