In the hushed darkness of the church, a piano is tuned and voices gather. The concert that is about to begin is not just a choral recital: it is an intimate yet collective journey through pop culture, self-affirmation and the celebration of freedoms that have been won and still need to be defended.
Performed by an LGBT choir accompanied by piano, the repertoire brings together iconic songs from contemporary popular culture, reinvented through subtle and committed choral arrangements. George Michael’s Freedom 90′ opens the programme like a manifesto: a hymn to personal emancipation, it resonates here with particular intensity, amplified by the sacred setting. The choral voice becomes plural, reminding us that freedom is always a collective struggle.
With unapologetic pop energy, the apparent lightness masks a real emotional depth: that of identities in the making, of desires sometimes thwarted, but always sung out loud.
In this space steeped in history and symbolism, the encounter between pop repertoire and choral writing creates a fertile contrast. The sacred is not frozen here: it opens up, welcomes and amplifies the voices of today. More than a concert, it is a powerful artistic and cultural gesture, where music becomes at once a refuge, a platform and a celebration.
